Designed with purpose

“This book is a collection of my favorite things about this home. From its thoughtful design to the peaceful backyard, every corner holds a story. I hope the next owner loves it as much as I have!”

Who designed my home:
I believe I’m the 4th owner of this property. The first owners designed the place to be a mid-century modern style home with a Japanese garden and wraparound deck that wove around the planned landscape.
What is the history of the home?
At some point there was galley kitchen and the washer and dryer were in the smaller kitchen pantry. I rented the house from Nov 2013 until I purchased it May 2015 and when I moved in, the washer and dryer had already been relocated to the garage. The kitchen had been remodeled from a galley to an open kitchen and I updated it again in 2020. The previous owner built a room inside the garage as a gift for her husband - a home office. The shelves in the room on the East wall came from the blue bedroom I remodeled to be a craft room. Instead of disposing of them, they became useful for storing things in the garage’s extra room. I added an outlet in the pantry where the washer and dryer used to be and used it for my paper shredder. I also added an outlet in the linen closet closest to the kitchen for my small hand vac, one in the hallway for the vacuum cleaner, as well as in the hall bath to make it bidet-ready.

What will I miss about it?

"It’s a very special home that is so beautiful and has really good vibes. There’s no house that has the backyard like this one does and I’ll miss the privacy and beauty of all the trees and lush landscaping. I love MCM homes, and this was a total dream home with all the modern amenities!"

"I feel like I’m in my own private park when I’m in the backyard. Who needs to go camping when I can enjoy nature in the backyard? I love to start my mornings in the hot tub, then enjoy coffee in one of the sitting spaces in the backyard. I also love to bring my laptop in the backyard and work from there.

Having a home gym just steps away from the primary bedroom keeps me motivated to work out because there are no excuses!

I have total privacy in the backyard thanks to the tall trees and bamboo."

I opened the door and walked into the kitchen, the vaulted ceilings and huge dream kitchen took my breath away. I love how light and bright the home is and how it looks modest from the outside but is a hidden gem inside!

It flows so well and it’s so easy to feel inspired to cook beautiful meals and entertain in there. I also love the huge pantry that held my giant collection of Penzey’s Spices.

What little details do you treasure?
The additional outlets added throughout and the coffee bar!

Why did I buy this home?

Having three walls of windows (living room, kitchen/great room and primary bedroom) is also one of my favorite features.

The vaulted ceilings and the huge kitchen island make this house feel exceptional! I also love the cozy fireplaces which add a lot of heat and pleasant ambiance.

Where is the best window?
I made a lot of handmade greeting cards as I gazed at my yard out the south-facing window in my craft studio (blue room). I hung flower baskets in front of the window and enjoyed watching birds, squirrels and cats amuse me in the yard.

What is the most beautiful thing about the home?
The yard! The backyard, especially. There are so many sitting areas throughout the yard to soak up all the beauty that surrounds you. You can’t help but smile and feel gratitude when you’re sitting amongst all this beauty.
